An Evening at the Jennings Center

    Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Earlier this week I was at the Jennings Center for Older Adults to do some work.  They were dedicating a new apartment building and wanted some event coverage.  They also needed to update some of the staff head shots.  So, I arrived a couple hours early and setup shop.  First come first serve.

I was warned ahead of time that a lot of the staff didn’t like to have their pictures taken, but then again who among us would be thrilled to line up for a corporate mugshot?  What I found, though, was a great group of good spirited people that didn’t complain a bit and they all gave perfect smiles and had a good time in the few minutes we spent together.

    Corporate Headshots

After finishing up with the portrait work I moved across the street to cover the dedication ceremony of their newly completed St. Rita Senior Apartment buildings. Bishop Lennon from the Cleveland Catholic Diocese was in attendance to take part in the event and to bless the building. I snapped this shot as he was waiting to be called to the podium. On of my favorites from the night.

It was a really nice event. People in attendance appeared to enjoy themselves. The food was really good. Of course, the Jennings Center is a beautiful campus as well.

    Little Buckeyes

A while back I did a post about photographing kids being kids and nothing proves that point more than these three shots.   This is Olivia, Austin and their cousin Ellie.  I shot the three of them together last fall and I must not have really frightened the children too much because their parents called me back to shoot them again this year. ;)

I have to say we got really lucky with the day.  It was 70F last weekend – in November! – in Ohio!  That sort of thing never happens.   We took advantage of the weather to do quite a few shots outside and these three were easily some of my favorites from the session!

    First Day of School

    Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Nothing brings out the cameras like the first day of school. My oldest son, all 7.916 years (he turns 8 in October) had his first day of classes today. He said he was nervous all morning, but when that bus finally pulled around the corner and he saw the regular bus driver he hopped right on and off he went.

    Carter's First Day of School

I have no idea what ever happened to the pictures from my first days of school. They aren’t that important to me now. I imagine they are in box at my mom’s house.  If I were to come across them I’d be thrilled and relive those first days like they were yesterday.

I suppose these photographs won’t be that important to my kids years from now, but, the thing is, they are important to me now.  And hopefully, like me, while they might have forgotten about them they would think it would be great to stumble upon them and relive their first days.  They make a memory.

So, if I could wedge one advertisement into this post it would be to get family photos – not just digital ones that will get lost when the computer crashes, or the email gets trashed.  Print some pictures, but them in a shoebox or an album and tuck them away to be found later once the initial thrill of hanging them on the fridge or setting them on the fireplace mantle goes away.   You’ll be glad you did.  So will your kids.

    Slip-n-Slide!

    Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Summer has finally arrived in Cleveland – at least for a couple of days. To beat the heat last night the kids busted out the Slip-n-Slide.

If there is a perfect way to take portraits of kids, it has to be when they are being kids. The smiles are real. Their personality shines. There is no reason a photographer can’t come to your house and just follow the kids around for a bit – playing ball, riding bikes, being, well, kids!

Besides, my studio isn’t big enough for a Slip-n-slide!

    Hope you’re enjoying the summer!

    Mindy and Bo got married!

    Married!

Had a great time shooting Mindy and Bo’s wedding over the weekend. No shots of the girls for me – I spend the morning hanging out with the men! My friend Andi got to hang with the ladies while they got ready.

Couldn’t have asked for better guys to work with. Easy going, willing to try anything and looking to have a good time.

    Attitude

We cruised through downtown Painesville on our way to the church for some shots and then made it to the church on time.

Congrats! I hope you have a wonderful future together.
