Well, summer vacation has come to an end in these parts and the kids headed back to school this morning. I, on the other hand, took a vacation day so that I could have the house all to myself!

Personal Post – First Day of School
Tuesday, August 24th, 2010Gabbie – Senior Class of 2011
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010Gabbie called me up earlier this summer to take her Senior Pictures. She was referred to me by my September Bride Carli! I love referrals! Thanks Carli!
We decided to meet up at a local park for our first location and then head into Downtown Willoughby. We also talked about what sort of things Gabbie likes to do – sports, tennis….and then the bomb…snowboarding! It’s August! How am I supposed to shoot snowboarding? I came up with some cool, commercial shoot type ideas, but nothing we couldn’t pull off without a crew. I told her not to worry about it because we had some time before the shoot and I’d get it figured out.
Well, the night of the shoot arrived and I still hadn’t figured it out. Since it was hot and humid, we decided to shoot snowboarding last since she was going to put on some of her gear and I didn’t want to start the shoot off with her getting too hot. By the time we got to snowboard, the sky was cooperating and a little rain had left the parking lot nice and shiny. It was dark enough that anything but her the sky would be lit up with flash or the setting sun – a perfect way to hide the green of summer. I think we pulled off August snowboarding pretty well!
Family Style with Olivia and Austin
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010I’m starting to run out of fingers to count how many times I’ve taken Austin and Olivia’s pictures. I bring them chocolate milk and Smarties and they call me “Picture Paul”. I may have to put that on a business card!
Except for one big family photo I did a year or so ago with the Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, I usually only shoot Austin and Olivia. This time around they wanted some nice and simple family shots in their yard – and it’s a great big yard that’s perfect for pictures.
And at the end of every shoot we have a little fun – mostly to burn off some of the sugar from all the Smarties they eat while we’re taking pictures!
Cousins – It’s a Tradition
Wednesday, June 16th, 2010Every year, just before the Fourth of July, we get our kids and our nephews together to take a pictures of them all for the grandparents. It’s tradition. You don’t mess with that, right?
The whole group is six kids all under eight years old – ranging from two to eight for realz (my wife just told me I was using “actually” too much). How hard is it to get eight kids to look at you?
Actually (doh!), it’s not as bad as that looks. I was testing out the lighting and told them to relax.
Here is what’s cool about photographer’s kids. I just put mine on the log and got it one shot.
For me, the best shots came at the end of the session. I told them to just play. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – nothing beats taking a picture of a child just being a child.
And, ACTUALLY, that’s all I have to say in the post.
Something to Chew On
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010This post has nothing to do with that picture, other than I want to give you something to chew on and think about.
The senior class of 2010 is already counting the days to graduation, but the seniors of 2011 still have a lot to think about. One of those things is probably their Senior Portraits. I’m looking for a gentleman and lady from Eastlake North and Will… Willl… hmmm.. I went to Eastlake North so saying Willoughby South is like talking about the state up north.
In fact, I’ll work with any local senior and any local school!
What do I want from the lucky gentleman and lady. I want them to be my reps and refer their friends to LoC for Senior Portraits. That’s all. I’ll take their picture, give them some rep cards and depending on how many friends they send my way they will get discounts on their portrait session with me. Heck, they refer enough people, they might even get their own session for free.
If you’re interested, then drop me a line – phone or email and we can set something up.
Next week, I’ll be back with something to chew on for weddings!
