Inspired to Tri

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Every August I get up early and head downtown to my little part in helping out United Cerebral Palsy – Cleveland by taking pictures they can use to promote their involvement with the Cleveland Triathlon.

Watching these families and their children, the support they get from loved ones and friends, is really inspiring.  This is the promo slide show for this years race.  Take a few seconds to watch it.

The first 30 seconds are so is all my work and then there are several other shots through the rest of the slides.

I’ve got some other work with UCP that’s going to drop soon as well. I’ll be sure to share it as soon as it’s available!

These People Made My Year

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Thank you to all my clients on 2010. So many of you have been with me since the beginning of this adventure into making LoC a business. Many of you were new this year. Many of you have already made plans to work with me again 2011.

I thank you. It’s as simple as that. Without you, there wouldn’t be Left of Center Photography.

Bishop Lennon. I shot this at the opening of the St Rita Apartments at the Jennings Center. What a great organization.

Baseball! That’s my boy, Carter. This came about after talking about how boring team photos for city rec leagues can be and how simple it would be to make them better.

This is my kids with their cousins. It’s the annual grandchildren’s shoot that my sister-in-law does every year. The kids don’t seem all that interested!

Personal Pictures in Review

Monday, December 13th, 2010

These pictures aren’t people.  They are pictures I take for me.  The things I’m shooting when I’m not with a client and I’m not chasing my own kids around with a camera.  I have to say, LoC was a lot busier this year than I had expected (Thank You Clients!) so I didn’t shoot on my time as much as I have in the past.  Still,  I did get out and I think I got some great shots.  A lot of these are framed and warming up the walls of my house.

There will be a year on review for client shots coming soon, but there is still one more client I have to work with this year!

What are You Going to Do?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

What are your photographic resolutions for 2010?  Whether you are an established pro or just picking up a camera there has to be something you should want to push yourself to do to become a better photographer.

I’ve been thinking of what I want to do photographically in 2010.  One thought was “a picture a day”.  It’s a great way to go out and force yourself to pick up your camera every day and shoot something.  They aren’t all going to be masterpieces, but that’s not the point.  The point is that you’ll be practicing every day.  You’ll be changing the settings on the you camera, your flash.  You’ll be pushing ISOs and shutter speeds.  You’ll be learning your gear.  I know because I did it a couple of years ago.  That’s my problem with taking it on again – a sort of been there and done that.

Another one that’s interesting to me is a “100 Strangers” project.  I know a few people who have taken this on.  It’s a challenge for a lot of reasons.  First, you’re going to need to have your camera with you all the time because you never know when you’ll find the perfect stranger.  Second, and probably harder than the last point, is that you’re going to have to approach somebody you don’t know and ask them – without seeming completely like a stalker – and ask them if you can take their picture.  I’m greedy, I’d probably have to ask if I could take a couple.  ;)

Still not sure what I’m going to take on.  I have a few other ideas rattling around the old noggin that I’m not ready to share.   Good thing I have a couple more days to 2010 to sort it all out. :)

What sort of challenges can you think up?

Award Winner

So it turns out my six year old just might be a better photographer than I am. At least according to her trophy case. Paige came home yesterday with two awards for her photographs in the local PTI Art Show. Her pictures now move on to larger contest and if they keep winning, I think they eventually get to a state competition.

Way to go Paige!

Here are her winning images.
