FAQs

General Information

Do you have a studio?

  • No.  I photograph you at the location of your choice.  That could be your home, a park, or anyplace you have in mind that we can legally obtain access to (or get away before getting caught!).  All of the gear I need to take perfect photos of you or your event is portable.

What should I (we) wear?

  • Dress your style.  Individuals need to be comfortable in what they are wearing.  Large groups should be somewhat coordinated.  The same goes for couples.  Check on Google for complimentary colors and use that as a tool to help pick colors that will match.
  • For sessions that will include more than one outfit I suggest something casual and something a little more formal – but again – the pictures should reflect your style because they are pictures of you!

Portrait Sessions

How long are portrait sessions?

  • Typical sessions last 45 minutes to an hour and half depending on a number of factors.  If a high school senior session includes outfit changes or location changes, it may take longer.  If a newborn needs to eat, it may take longer.

Engagement Sessions

How long are engagement sessions?

  • Typical engagement sessions last an hour and a half to two hours.  Often they include one or two locations and one or two outfit changes.

Weddings

Do you work from a shot list?

  • No.  Not really.  If you have a list of important family members that you would like photos with then please make a list because I won’t know who everybody is the day of your wedding.  As far as other shot lists – “the first kiss”, “the shoes”, “the rings” – those are all details of your day that I include with every wedding!

Do you work with a second photographer?

  • Typically, I do not employ a second photographer to cover your wedding day.  My vision is mine and I shoot with the finished look of my photos in mind.   It isn’t easy to bring in the images from somebody else and make the day look cohesive.  Also, I’ve found that a second photographer just results in another set of pictures very similar to mine.  That means you don’t get better photos, or even more, it just increases the amount of time it takes to deliver a finished product to you.  Every wedding is different, though, and if yours requires a second photographer, there are several in the area that I work with and can often find one to be available to help me document your day.

Do you work with an assistant?

  • Yes.  My assistant will be with us on your wedding day (and, likely, your engagement session).  She helps me stay organized during the day – getting equipment, setting up lights, posing groups and even doing a little bit of shooting.
